The Sampson's Story....
GOING STRONG SINCE 1962!
Originally the business was known as E. & L. SAMPSON and founded by Brothers Eric and Len Sampson in 1962. Eric's son Nic and Len's son Tony were in partnership in the business for many years, when Tony moved on, Nic's wife Patti stepped in to run the shop with Nic.

Nic and Patti owned the business until June 2016 when Nic and Patti's son Luke and his wife Jodie purchased the business. Luke is a qualified spay painter, manages the shop and prepares the quotes.

During the 60+ years Sampson's has been established, the shop has gained a reputation as one of the leading repair business in the area.

Sampson's Car Repairs is situated in the CBD of Tamworth which makes it the only smash repair shop conveniently located close to the town centre.

Not only do we specialise in motor vehicle accident repairs, we do motorcycle repairs, restoration work, fix minor scratches and dents, plastic welding and repairs.
Built a Beach Buggy!
Below is a letter we were sent from Jeff Esdaile, with a story about his beach buggy project and Sampsons Car Repairs back in the 60's, where it all began.

Sirs,
I am Jeff Esdaile, a one time Tamworth resident. I lived in Tamworth as a single agronomist from 1961 to 1967.
I am now in my mid 80's and cleaning out my excess photographs from my past career and community activities. Whilst in Tamworth I had a significant association with E & L Sampson Motor body repairs in the mid 1960's.
I have attached photos of the staff at that time. From right - Len Sampson, John Urquhart, , Eric Sampson - I am not sure re the left guy - maybe Ron Buss. Also not sure of the boy- maybe a next generation Sampson (it's Nicol Sampson).
During my years in Tamworth , Eric, Len and I built a VW powered beach buggy which is shown in several pictures. It was made from a VW 1200 (Beetle) floor pan, which had been shortened in the centre by 12 inches (30 cm). I obtained detailed drawings and assembly instructions from a company in California and a Tamworth sheet metal company cut out and folded the sheets.
It was all welded together- I think Eric & Len did the welding and also the painting and I did labouring jobs to assist.
It was registered ( would not qualify today) and I owned it for around 2 years after completion. There was no provision for a top or roof of any kind, and It was very cold in the winter time. The carburettor would ice up in cold weather as no decent cover over the motor to keep it warm.
I sold it to a VW dealer in Wollongong . A year or to later VW came out with their 'bush buggy' which was built along similar lines.
Eric and Len were very innovative guys , and this project was a success for a novice like me.
